Public Education

July 25th, 2014

One of the goals of organized dentistry is to educate the public as to the nature of oral disease and how to prevent and treat it. The New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) along with the American Dental Association (ADA) and the local dental societies (Third and Fourth Districts in this area) all provide their member dentists with information and programs for public education.

Along with many other area dentists, our office visits local schools during National Children’s Dental Health Month in February to teach youngsters about the dangers of bad food habits and the benefits of proper daily care of their teeth. We also have local pre-school classes visit our office as an introduction to the dental office. This takes some of the mystery and scariness out of their first visit. We have also provided programs for senior citizens groups on smart dental consumerism and to local businesses on the option of Direct Reimbursement Plans as an alternative to traditional dental insurance.
If your group would like a speaker for a particular program, you can talk to your dentist or contact our office or the local dental society which maintains a speakers bureau. Education is a key to good health.
