NEW YEAR’S DENTAL RESOLUTIONS

February 10th, 2014

Well, the new year has begun.  With the thought of resolutions for the upcoming year, it’s a good time to take a look at some interesting facts.
Did you know that almost half the country’s population does not visit a dental office for regular care? The reasons stated are often fear of treatment, past experience, and cost.  The fact is that your overall health is closely related to all the parts of your body.  Chronic oral infection has recently been linked to a variety of medical problems including heart disease.
Daily oral hygiene is the cornerstone of preventive care.  It is recommended that you should brush for 2 minutes twice a day to properly clean all the surfaces of the teeth and remove the disease causing bacterial plaque.  Unfortunately, studies have shown that the average adult brushes for about 30 seconds.
You may want to discuss preventive care with your dental office staff.  They will assist you in tailoring a program to fit your specific needs.  There’s no need to spend additional time and effort on problems that you don’t have.  You need to focus on the best ways to prevent disease and maintain optimal health.
With the new year, why not evaluate your dental needs and make sure you are doing your best for your dental health.
Has your dentist recommended treatment that you’ve put off?  Start to think about completing treatment in stages to accomplish your goal.  Look at your medical savings account and think about budgeting in your needed dental treatment.  Your dental office will be happy to prepare a complete treatment estimate to help you to plan the coming year’s treatment.
