We have become used to seeing children with braces to straighten their teeth and give them a lifetime of great looking smiles.  But the sight of adults wearing braces has also become more common.
While it is usually easier and quicker to move the teeth of younger patients, it is possible to move the teeth of any age patient.  Teeth are easier to keep clean when overlapping or rotating is minimized.  Brushing and flossing become more effective with straight teeth.  And, of course, it’s never too late to have a pleasant looking smile.
It is important to note that adult orthodontic results can take longer to complete and not all techniques that work with younger patients can be used with adults.  However, recent advances in adult techniques have led to systems such as “Six Month Smiles™” and “Invisalign™”.  While they do not correct all the bite discrepancies, in many cases they will provide the straight smile line that adults are looking for.
You can have a new smile with renewed self image and self confidence.  If you missed the opportunity to have braces as a child, it isn’t too late to take advantage of today’s treatment for adults.
Many of the new techniques in adult treatment take advantage of the latest in technology.  The impressions are digitalized by a 3-D scanner and entered into a computer record.  They can be manipulated to create the desired final results and the necessary brackets, wires, and appliances can be designed to treat the case.  Then the final models and even some brackets can be created by a 3-D printer or a CAD-CAM unit.  What seemed very futuristic just a few years ago is now available.
